David Steele has spent almost three decades working in politics and public policy.

In 1994, David joined with his former Senate staff colleague, Matt Smith and established the Strategic Issues Management Group.

Since establishing SIMG, David has worked in various capacities on numerous political campaigns throughout the country, with a high degree of success.  He has served as the principal general consultant for state-wide and local races, prepared critical campaign research, developed campaign plan, strategies and deliverables.  David’s public policy depth as a senior staffer in the U.S. Senate combined with his campaign experience gives him a unique ability to convey complex public policy issues to targeted voter audiences.

David has also served as the facilitator for the successful Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan Steering Committee for Pima County.  This process brought diverse interests together to develop consensus recommendations on how Pima County would grow.  This effort resulted in the overwhelming voter passage of the Pima County Open Space bond in 2004, an effort in which David was also directly involved.

During the ten-years David worked in the U.S. Senate, he worked in a variety of capacities for Senator Dennis DeConcini.  Among other things, he served as the senior policy advisor to the Senator on environmental, water, energy and natural resource issues.  David conceived, researched and drafted legislation; represented the Senator in negotiations and discussions on legislative issues; and formulated legislative strategy.  High among his achievements with Senator DeConcini was the enactment of the Arizona Desert Wilderness Act of 1990.  David was also a co-chair of the Western Senate Coalition’s Clean Air Act re-authorization staff working group.

David is a veteran of the United States Navy and the Arizona Air National Guard.  He graduated from the University of Arizona and currently resides in Tucson, Arizona, where he is an active member of the community.  David is a member of the Empire Ranch Foundation Board of Directors and is a member of a community-based organization supporting the Arizona Air National Guard in Tucson.  David formerly served as chairman of the Governor’s Council on Small Business, as a former member of the KUAT Public Advisory Board and on the Site Council for Collier Elementary School in the Tucson Unified School District.
